A day in the life of Javier Lougedo, Junior FrontEnd Developer at HeyTrade
What is your day-to-day life like at HeyTrade?
Thanks to the flexibility of our schedules, my routine has changed over time. I usually start my day at 8am. I start by spending a few minutes organizing the day, going over priorities and seeing what else I could do…. After that, there is usually some kind of daily meeting or call with my teammates, and then I spend about 3 or 4 hours programming and completing tasks without too many distractions.
We work with React Native and TypeScript, so writing code is pretty straightforward. They are languages without too many complications. On the other hand, with the tools we use to simulate (MockServer and FireBase), testing versions and code is very convenient and fast.
The rest of the day is spent in other meetings, reviewing code, finalizing tasks… No two days are the same and there is always something to do, not everything is programming, and we help each other all the time. At the end of the day, the important thing is to row together!
Why did you join HeyTrade?
While I was finishing my last year of Computer Engineering at university, I was offered an internship at HeyTrade. I loved the internship experience and when it was over, I was offered to continue working here. It was a very good opportunity and I didn’t let it pass. So far, I can assure you that it has been the best professional decision of my life.
What has been your favorite moment at work?
I couldn’t tell you. HeyTrade has been my first job and I have had some really great experiences here, although for my colleagues they might have been “normal”. I mean the first time I went to the office or we had lunch together, for example. For the rest of the team maybe it didn’t mean so much, but it was my first company lunch. I don’t know, it’s hard to choose just one moment, but I will never forget the day we went for beers in Madrid when I signed the contract after the internship.
Which word best describes the way you approach work?
“Cristina”, that’s the word (laughs)*. Seriously now, if I had to choose one word, it would be resilience.
Many times, the way to get things right is to be stubborn as a mule. For me, it’s important to hang in there, bounce back, be strong and go for it, whatever it takes.
What would you like to achieve in HeyTrade?
I would like to go far and consolidate myself in the working world. HeyTrade has given me a unique opportunity to show what I am capable of. I would like to be an example that success does not depend only on your previous experience or studies, but on your willingness to learn, collaborate and know how to make the most of your capabilities.
“Resilience is key: many times, the way to get things right is to be stubborn as a mule. It’s important to hang in there, bounce back, be strong and go for it, whatever it takes.”
How has working at HeyTrade changed you?
It has helped me learn a lot and has allowed me to be a better person. I don’t think I’m the same as when I started. I have improved in all aspects.
Finally, any productivity tips you would like to share?
It’s good for me to start my days with a few minutes to organize myself and think about what I intend to do that day. Having something to do in the afternoon motivates me a lot to get things done and finish the day early. I am extremely productive at work if I have plans afterwards.
